The Washington Hotel's handsomely restored historic building and pastoral surroundings make it the perfect place to relax-especially after biking nearby country roads, swimming in the lake, birdwatching or hiking trails through the island's natural beauty. Settle down with a good book and a glass of fine wine beside the parlor's fireplace or unwind in one of the hotel's luxurious steam showers. Or simply rest a while in an Adirondack chair beneath a stately maple tree as the sun gracefully sets. Built by a schooner captain to lodge other ships' captains while at port, the hotel's mission is much the same as it was a century ago—to provide a respite from daily life by offering extreme comfort, simplicity and elegance. The tastefully decorated guest rooms, located on the second floor, offer harbor and forest views. Handwoven blankets and organic cotton sateen linens are provided for your comfort. Two bathrooms with steam showers are shared between eight guest rooms upstairs; there are two additional lavatories downstairs.
